QR code with a map point

A QR code with a location encodes latitude and longitude in the geo: format. A person points the camera and a point opens in a maps app, ready to build a route. On iPhone that is Apple Maps, on Android — Google Maps, Yandex Maps or 2GIS to choose from.

What to fill in

Two fields — latitude and longitude, for example 55.751244 and 37.618423. Take the coordinates from a map: drop a pin on the right point, open the place card and copy the two numbers.

Where it is used

• An office, warehouse or pickup point. The client arrives without mistyping the street.
• A meeting or event spot. A code in the invitation leads straight to the point.
• An entrance, parking or reception. A pin is more precise than a text address.
• A spot in nature. A fishing, camping or filming place with no address.

Coordinates, not a map link

The code holds the coordinates, so it opens in whatever maps app the person has and does not depend on one service. If you need a business card with reviews and hours, encode a link to it instead — use the "Link" type.

How to check

1. Scan the code on iPhone and Android — a map with a pin at the right place should open.
2. Verify the point sits where it should, not in the next block.
3. Print the code dark on light, with margins, as a 1024-pixel PNG or SVG.

Add a "How to get here" caption and a logo so it is clear the code leads to a map.

How to get the coordinates

In Yandex Maps or Google Maps press and hold a point on the map — a card with the latitude and longitude appears at the bottom. Copy the two numbers, using a dot as the decimal separator. For a building address, find it in map search and take the coordinates from the place card.
