What is DNS?

The DNS, or Domain Name System, is a system for obtaining information about domains. The DNS records displayed by this tool represent the units of transmission and storage of information in this system.

Why do you need to know all this?

For your site to work, you need to set up your DNS servers and specify the correct records. Incorrect DNS entries can seriously disrupt the functioning of your site. Even if you're not an administrator, these records can help you determine why you can't access external sites when you can easily access them from another computer.

In what format should I enter the address in this field?

Any format will do - be it "http://www.example.com", "www.example.com" or "example.com". The service will automatically determine which part of the string you entered is a domain name and collect the necessary data. You can even enter the address of a particular page on the site and still get the full details of the domain name. The only thing the service does not understand is the IP addresses of the sites.
